Editorial standards and corrections
Evidence first
Every factual claim we publish is supported by an original document, a reliable dataset, authoritative reporting or clearly identified testimony, and links to it. Allegations, including our own starting questions, are labeled as allegations until the records settle them.
Precise words
We do not call conduct fraud, theft or a crime unless a court or an official finding has said so. We describe what the records show.
Right of reply
Governments, agencies and camera companies we write about can send a response or a correction. Relevant responses are published with the investigation.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we fix it and note the change on the page. Send a correction.
Privacy
We remove personal information (names of ticketed drivers, plate numbers, home addresses, ticket numbers) from submitted records before publishing. If personal information about you appears on the site, tell us and we will remove it.
Copyright
We link to and summarize other outlets' reporting rather than republishing it. Government records are published in full.
Not legal advice
Our materials are educational. For a ticket or a legal question, consult the issuing agency's official process or a lawyer.
