How we count
Every number on TicketTrap.ai is tied to a source and labeled. This page explains exactly what each figure means.
Six different numbers, never mixed
- Tickets issued: notices of liability sent out.
- Fines and fees assessed: what those tickets charged, before anyone paid.
- Fines and fees collected: money actually received.
- Paid to camera contractors: the vendor's share or fee.
- Refunds: money returned, for example after a court ruling.
- Net revenue to government: what the government kept.
These are different measurements. A total of tickets assessed is never presented as money collected.
Actual figures and estimates
Actual figures are copied from a government record or a published source, as published. Estimate figures are our calculations; each one states its method next to the number. Documented totals on the home page add up actual figures only, from verified or reported sources, at the program level, so a county total and the program inside it are never counted twice.
The live counter
The home page counter is an estimate. For each active program we take the most recent full year of documented money collected and spread it evenly across that year, then show the amount for today so far (Eastern time). It is not a live feed of real tickets. The programs and years it is based on are listed under the counter.
Verification labels
| Verified | Confirmed by an original record |
| Reported | Published by a reliable outlet, not yet checked against the original record |
| Unverified | A lead we have not confirmed |
| Disputed | Records conflict |
| Disproven | The records contradict it |
| Unresolved | Not enough evidence either way |
Unknown means unknown
Where we do not have a reliable number for a place or a year, we show nothing rather than a guess.
